What is CEREC?

Literally, CEREC stands for “Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics.” This sounds much more complicated than it is. What it actually means is that we’re able to use an in-office, fully integrated system to design, craft, and place a tooth-colored dental restoration in just one visit, making dental care faster, easier, and more convenient.

How Does CEREC Work?

Traditional dental restorations require patients to visit our Houston dental office at least two times. During the initial visit, we prepare teeth and create a restoration design that would be completed by our dental lab. Then, the patient would return for a second appointment where we would place the restoration. CEREC makes it possible for us to complete the entire dental restoration process in our office.

We begin by preparing the teeth to be treated. This may include removing damaged teeth and reshaping healthy dental structures. Once the tooth is prepared, we use the CEREC digital impression tool to capture images of the prepared smile. Then, you get to relax while we go to work designing and crafting your dental crown, bridge, or other restoration. Our CEREC unit allows us to seamlessly use your dental impressions to design a restoration. Then, that design is immediately transferred to our in-office milling unit where your restoration is crafted from a block of high-quality ceramic. Once the restoration is completed, we cement it in place, recreating your beautiful, healthy smile.
