What is Antibiotic Therapy?

In order to treat your gum disease, we use a few approaches. Our preferred one is prevention, which is why we will always examine your gums when you visit our dental office. Most of the time, gum disease in its early stages can be treated with better brushing and flossing.

For more advanced gum disease, we may have to use a pair of techniques known as scaling and root planing. Afterward, we will apply a topical antibiotic known as Arestin®. It comes in powdered form, and will be applied to your gums after your dentist in Houston has thoroughly cleaned them. The powder is actually made of tiny microspheres that gradually release the antibiotic over time, increasing the chance that it’ll completely eliminate the infection.
