Dr. Steven Chancellor, DDS

When he was a young boy, Dr. Chancellor had a best friend whose uncle was a dentist. After spending plenty of quality time at his practice, he decided he wanted to follow in his footsteps and become a dentist as well.

Dr. Chancellor’s journey to becoming the incredible dental professional he is today started at Florida State University. From there, he went on to complete his dental doctorate at the University of Texas Dental Branch in Houston. As the years went by, he pursued continuing education in CEREC same-day technology, laser dentistry, periodontal/ bone grafting, head/neck pain treatment, Invisalign, and more.

Today, Dr. Chancellor has over 35 years of dentistry experience under his belt. He is passionate about helping patients near Houston Heights achieve and maintain optimal oral health. When he’s not making people smile, he enjoys spending time with his child and playing golf.

Dr. Song Ahn, DDS

A Houston native, Dr. Ahn received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston. He emphasizes patient comfort and is dedicated to staying up to date with the latest advancements in dentistry. Doing so allows him to provide patients near Houston Heights with exceptional care unlike anywhere else!

He’s also a graduate of Baylor College of Dentistry Cosmetic Dentistry Continuum and a Board-Certified Diplomat of the American Board of Oral Implantology (ABOI) and International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI).

Dr. Thomas Ahn, DDS

At an early age, Dr. Thomas Ahn shadowed his father (Dr. Song Ahn) in the dentist’s office. Because this type of work was in his family, he knew right away that’d pursue dentistry as well.

Dr. Ahn earned a master’s degree in biomedical sciences from Texas A&M. After that, he earned his dental doctorate at the UTHealth School of Dentistry. Following that, he underwent numerous hours of modern training in L-PRF, bone grafting procedures, occlusion, and comprehensive orthodontists. He’s also an affiliate associate fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry.

Now he’s a certified Invisalign provider and a proud member of professional organizations like the American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, American Academy of Implant Dentistry, SPEAR Education, and International Association of Orthodontics.

Dr. Demi Tran, DDS

Dr. Tran was raised in a family that did not have access to quality dental care. As a result, she was forced to watch her parents endure painful toothaches and other oral health issues as a little girl. She promised herself to pursue dentistry and help patients maximize their well-being to avoid these problems.

At the UTHealth School of Dentistry at Houston, Dr. Tran completed her dental doctorate. There, she received comprehensive and diverse dental training with the newest technologies, such as digital scanning and custom restoration design. In addition, she’s certified in Invisalign, nitrous oxide, and BLS/CPR. Dr. Tran is a proud member of organizations like the American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, and Academy of General Dentistry.

FAQs

How do I get emergency dental care?

The best way to get prompt emergency dental care is to call our office directly. This helps ensure that we provide assistance as soon as possible. Our team can offer first aid guidance over the phone if necessary, and will help you make an appointment for the earliest available time. In most cases, we’re able to see patients experiencing a dental emergency on a same-day basis.

Can I receive sedation for my dental appointment?

Yes, and at Sunrise Dental Center, you have options! We provide both nitrous oxide and oral conscious sedation for patients who find it difficult to feel comfortable and at ease during treatment. Nitrous oxide (a.k.a. “laughing gas”) is mild but effective, and is suitable for the vast majority of patients, including children. Oral conscious provides a deeper sense of relaxation, and works best for those with more severe anxiety or sensitivities.

Be sure to give us a call a couple of days before your appointment if you’re considering dental sedation. That way, we can help you determine which option will be best for you.

How long will I have to wear braces or clear aligners?

Ultimately, it will depend on the severity of your dental misalignment. On average, traditional braces take about 18 to 36 months to correct crooked teeth, while clear aligners like Invisalign take about six to 12 months. But if your teeth are positioned significantly out of alignment or have large gaps between them, it might take a bit longer to complete your treatment. We’ll be able to give you a more precise estimate once we get a better sense of your oral situation with an exam.

How often should I visit the dentist?

If you generally have good oral health and aren’t concerned about certain risk factors like diabetes or pregnancy, then you should visit your dentist near The Heights once every six months. If you need help managing gum disease or would benefit from more frequent checkups and cleanings, we might recommend visiting once every three months instead. That way, we’ll be better able to help you monitor and take care of your smile!

Can a dentist spot oral cancer?

Yes, and in fact, we perform an oral cancer screening during routine checkups. Oral cancer is much more treatable when identified in early stages, but it can be hard for someone who didn’t go to dental school for several years to tell the difference between a cold sore and a concerning lump. This is part of the reason we encourage patients to schedule regular checkups. If we do notice something suspicious, we can address it promptly, before the condition becomes worse.
